Starting / variable resistors
Starting resistors are used for starting large three-phase asynchronous motors with slipring rotors.
Here, the starting resistor is first switched off completely in the rotor circuit and then switched on
again step by step until the motor has reached full power. The starter resistor limits the motor’s
starting current, thereby increasing its in-phase component. The resistance and the graduation of the
stages determine the drive’s starting characteristics. Starting resistors from JOVYATLAS are mostly
manufactured using stainless steel grids and enclosed in a galvanised sheet steel housing. JOVYATLAS
has been manufacturing starting resistors for over thirty years. We are happy to accommodate your
specific wishes.
