In the meantime the safe, uninterrupted power supply of critical loads through the use of UPS systems is absolutely necessary in navigation. In case of on-board mains failure the emergency lights, radio, navigation, automation, communication as well as loudspeakers have to hold in operation for a fixed time. For the construction of these UPS systems the construction rules of the classification society is to consider for each respective ship. The manufacturer of the UPS systems has to establish this by the presentation of a certification. Without this certification it`s not allowed to install an UPS system aboard.
